Featured Compounded Medication:
Bevacizumab (Avastin®) 25mg/ml 0.12ml Pre-filled Syringes
We compound Bevacizumab (Avastin) in a state-of-the-art aseptic environment and dispense it in a 0.12ml single-dose, pre-filled syringe, using a method that is adapted from the method developed at the
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Pharmacy. Our compounding method employs proper aseptic technique under a laminar airflow hood (ISO Class 5) in compliance with USP Chapter <797>.
The single-stick fill process we employ is designed to reduce the risk of the vial "coring," which can happen as the result of multiple needle sticks. A 16ml vial of Avastin would yield more than 100 syringes, meaning that the vial would be penetrated by a needle more than 100 times if a multi-stick fill method was employed.
The vial stopper remains securely in place during this compounding process, protecting the Bevacizumab solution in the vial from inadvertent contamination during handling and filling in the laminar flow hood.
